Is anyone else planning on seeing this movie? Has anyone heard any kind of buzz surrounding it?
I watched the trailer. It looks decent, though we have all seen this story line like a million times in Gay Themed movies.
2 childhood bestfriends. Ones Gay the other Straight. They grow up, the gay friend loves his straight friend. blah blah blah...
I am pleased to see Robin Wright Penn in this. I like her generally as an actor.

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Mon, June 21, 2004 - 2:44 PMI agree Carl. I would like to see Hollywood put out a movie with a theme that hasnt been rehased a million times. Let's see some positive, healthy, 2 gay men fall in love and its ALL GOOD type thing. Leave the climax for a great sex scene and not, "Will the Str8 boy love or abandon his Gay Friend"? -

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Mon, June 21, 2004 - 3:31 PMwow this one looks like it might actually be worth seeing. Usually most gay films make me want to go out and eat something bitter to get that sweet icky taste out of my mouth but this does not look to bad. -

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Mon, June 21, 2004 - 6:57 PMI probably should not say to sweet as much as just bad acting and bad stories
The adventures of felix
Come undone
jeffery
broken hearts club was to much
billy holidays screen kiss
green plaid shirt
like it is
queer as folk.
will and grace is ick but sometimes the girl makes me laugh and the bitchy chick
bedrooms and hallways
alive and kicking
and many more but mostly its just bad stories told over and over in dif ways by very bad actors and screen writters.
I liked
The oposite of sex
Luster even with its sappiness
Cruising is genius
frisk is amazing
sunday bloody sunday
relax its just sex
the fluffer was not bad but not good either
The hitcher is a great homo erotic horror flick
nine dead gay guys
beautiful thing i liked alot
Urbania was not bad
that should give ya an idea of what im talking about regarding my tastes.

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Tue, June 22, 2004 - 12:36 AMi watched the trailer.
yep, it looks like something that's been done over and over again, but...
it also looks like they've done a tired format in a sensitive and interesting way - you can't trust a trailer but it IS a great cast, so it might just be alright (it's not like it canbe worse the next best thing, which was hilariously awful)

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Tue, June 22, 2004 - 8:14 AMi think hes playing alexander the great in the new oliver stone flick and while i heard they show alexander in love with his wives they also show him in sexual relations with the men he loved too. Far as i know Colin had no problem with those scenes so maybe not. -

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Tue, June 22, 2004 - 11:23 AMno i think colin farrell just looks like he's a bad ass. he's a carouser and womanizer no doubt, but i also heard that he is sweet and keeps his family around him (siblings) as his "posse" which is much more endearing i think than having a posse of hangers-ons and groupies... -

Tue, June 22, 2004 - 12:34 PMOh WOW!!! Thats pretty cool! Good for him. I have a new found respect then. Having lived in Hollywood I have met some of these "stars" and have not been impressed to say the least... Or even the very MOST! -

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Tue, June 22, 2004 - 10:46 PMFirst I would say if you haven't read the Michael Cunningham book "A Home At The End Of The World", you really should. It's quite beautiful and lyrical.
The book chronicles about twenty years (60s-80s). Farrell plays Bobby, who is boyhood friends with Jonathon (Dallas Roberts). Jonathon is gay and he does have a sexual relationship with Bobby (at least in the book). It's later when Jonathon is roommates with Clare (Wright-Penn) and Bobby moves in with them that relationships are tested. Jonathon was going to have a baby with Clare. Bobby moves in and falls for Clare and gets her pregnant.
I look forward to seeing how it translates to film. Just as a trivial aside: Farrell filmed a full-frontal nude scene for the film. It made it through the director's cut and was only removed at the studio's insistance. -

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Wed, June 23, 2004 - 8:03 AMwhy are stuidos so afraid of the penis? why does the mere sight of a penis errect or flacid send them scrambling for the scissors? Who do they think they will offend? I mean we saw kevins willy in wild things and that movie did not nothing but excellent box office. -

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Wed, June 23, 2004 - 12:15 PMThats a good question Zombie! A lot of times it has to do with $$ issues. If the final edit/release of a movie contains Full frontal or even partial, the studios have to agree to pay the actor quite a larger chunk of $$ for it. Hence, if it is cut from the general release, the studios are ot obligated to pay that portion.
That may or may not be the case here cuz darlin, I would LOVE to see Colin full frontal!!! -

Its a double standard in hollywood, its okay for a woman to bare all but if a guy, esp if its an rection..."it's oh my god, we can't show that!" *sigh* we wait for the DVD........

Wed, July 21, 2004 - 11:46 PMSaw it Monday night opening in Hollywood. Give it an A minus. CFarrell gives a better portrayal of a sensitive bisexual than I expected. Loved seeing Sissy Spacek and Wright Penn's character is very well done. Go see it, opens on Friday! -

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Mon, August 16, 2004 - 11:59 AMThis was the closing night film at Outfest (LA Gay& Lesbian Film Festival) on July 19th. I loved the book when I read it long, long ago. I really loved the movie too. I cried alot during the film. The film just takes one aspect of mood of the book, but I think, does it well.
While, you could argue that the plot was simplistic, I think both the writer and director effectively told the story of the two friends and what it was like to be living in the new world where friends were dying of AIDS in the mid-80's.
I give it 4 hankies. -

Mon, August 16, 2004 - 12:10 PMI liked it too... Sort of Though I personally (dont flame me) Think "The Trip" did a better job of telling this story with a slightly different plot.
The book is AMAZING though! -

Re: Colin Farrell's new Gay film???
Mon, August 16, 2004 - 1:20 PMI enjoyed the film ... for the most part. I thought the acting by everyone was superb. My only negative thoughts: I thought the plot sort of started to unravel when Penn's character announced she was prego and then suddenly everyone was all Pollyanna-ish. Up to that point, I was intrigued and fully engrossed in the plot and characters; Also, Farrell was excellent, but I wasn't convinced that his character was really in love with Penn's character (but this had nothing to do with his acting). Overall, a thumbs up. -
