or ... "The Case of the Dead People in LA."
This one came and went so fast I never noticed it. Too bad - it is by far the funniest movie of 2005,- and maybe of the past couple years. It's a film noir / dark satire / buddy movie with Robert Downey Junior as a tweaked out New Yorker lost in the glitz and plastic of LA [and he does an amazing job - go figure! Think Woody Allen on speed], Val Kilmer as the butch homo detective [in his words, "This isn't good cop bad cop. This is fag and New Yorker"], and Michelle Monoghan as the femme fatale [she's gorgeous and funny and ought to be A-List already].
I don't know how I missed it. There probably weren't enough poop jokes for Hollywood to market it as a comedy, and the language is too rough for the good people who organize the gay film circuit [i.e. Kilmer on his Derringer: "I call it my "faggot gun", because it's only good for a couple of shots and then you have to drop it for something better. "]
I'm sure this isn't for everyone, but if you like your humor black and fast then this is for you.

Wed, August 16, 2006 - 5:20 PMI bought this one on DVD, having missed it in the theater too. Loved it! Funny and dark, how can you beat that? Robert Downey Jr is one of my favs anyway, along with Val Kilmer.

Sat, September 2, 2006 - 2:55 AMI actually caught this at a sneak preview I was invite to and LOVED it!!!
It was actually refreshing to see someone who I've had the Hots for "Val Kilmer" play a gay character. To see this character unlike any stereotypes was also refreshing.
