Edge of Seventeen has sentimental value to me. Watching it is like watching my own teenage coming out story, right down to the hair, clothes, and music. Even being underage and in the bars with friends who were older and like my "gay parents".

It’s cheesy, but “Edge of Seventeen” sucks me in every time I stumble over it on Logo. Then again, so does “Miss Congeniality” when I scroll past TNT. Come to think of it, the latter probably qualifies as a gay movie. I mean, what gay man hasn’t rooted for Miss Rhode Island at least once in his life?

Wow - I just got a nice crop of new films for my Netflix list! I prefer edgy to saccharine [loved Urbania, and hate Big Eden with an irrational passion]. Not all of mine would be considered 'gay' films - but they all at least have a strong gay character: Wild Reeds - One of the most honest coming of age films I've ever seen. Beautiful Thing - I couldn't understand the accents, and the middle dragged ... but the final scene is absolutely beautiful. Bad Education - By far my favorite Almodovar Gods and Monsters - Awesome acting by Ian McKellan & Brendan Frasier. Capote - More awesome acting Suddenly, Last Summer - Katherine Hepburn attempts to have Elizabeth Taylor lobotomized to cover up the horrible truth about her son ... Belle Epoque L`Auburge Espagnole Far From Heaven Hedwig and the Angry Inch His Secret Life - Great depiction of a gay 'family'. Lola and Billy the Kid - Almodovar with more sex. I've seen lots of great ones...I prefer comedies because I hate movies that make me cry at the end. I really liked Touch of Pink very comical happy ending...i like that. It's something you don't see enough in queer movies. Another movie I really liked...though this is not a gay male but a Trans film is Normal.

I loved Just One Time. Guillermo Diaz is such a bloody cutey and it was a fun movie. I'm not so sure what I thought of Mambo Italiano. Edge of 17 I did really like and I Think I do was fun. Its been so so long since I saw Maurice. Really need to review it again.

I just saw one of the best films in YEARS. By far, the best gay-themed film I have seen. Mysterious Skin. I know it's a bit older, but I was beyond thoroughly impressed and moved.

Hi Harlan, Yes, people seem to polarize over O Fantasma. Some (like me) think its got a very unique and powerful message and others find it to be one of the worst films they ever saw. It is interesting to me to gage the difference reaction because, I too see a lot of gay films and most of them I think are crap. Its rare for me to find a film that captures my imagination and stimulates my thinkng and emotional centers (as well as the lower ones) and O Fantasma got me on all levels.

Sean, I just ordered that film from TLA about a month ago and I absolutely loved it. Very well acted and the portrayals seemed both natural and universal. Get Over It...another gay themed French film...is also good. The French really seem to know how to do gay film well now that I think about it. Come Undone is another of my faves! The only one I have seen recently was a French film call "A Question of Love". Difficulties in a relationship when one of the partners is totally out to his family and the other one is closeted to his. Ok so i think I have watched all the Lesbian videos I can think of. Many of them not being that good. I have notice theres much more Gay men films so I want to know which are the best ones to see. The last Gay mens film I watched was "Bear Cub", it was ok. It was nice to see gay men with some meat on them, not just the twenty somthing washboard stomack(spelling) guys. So any sugestions?
