Anyone else see "Gomer Pyle" as en epic love story between Gomer and Sgt. Carter?

I'm only half joking. I just got season 3 on DVD and the plot of every episode I've seen could be interpreted as undercover gay. From being impressed by Liberace's house, to facing a jealous with because Gomer has gotten his "claws into her husband." And I don't see it as simply unintentional coincidence enhanced by a re-reading through the filter of today's consciousness, since Sgt. Carter in one episode asks Gomer "Mary, Mary, How does your garden grow?"

Not to mention, I always heard Jim Nabors was Rock Hudson's "long-term companion."
