Its always a refleshing surprise when I come across a film that gets really poor ratings (something less than 2 stars on netflix) and I find I really like it. That is the case with this flick. Maybe its that it characterizes the era I came of age, maybe its the southern thang that I have grow to be so fond of. But I think its just a delightfully told tale, so don't let the poor ratings dissuade you. See it.

Re: Lost in the Pershing Point Hotel
Sat, July 22, 2006 - 5:50 AMIts about a guy brought up a Southern Baptist, who leaves home for the big city and gets connected to all these drug crazed characters in a seedy hotel. Now that sounds typical and "been there, done that" sort of thing, but what the movie captures is the attitude towards drugs of the middle seventies and the wildness of the funky, disco scene of the pre-AIDs era and from a southern perspective. It is genuinely southern and the writers and actors have really captures something in southern decadence that i just loved. -

Re: Lost in the Pershing Point Hotel
Tue, July 25, 2006 - 10:47 AMI saw this film at the Castro theater 5 or 6 years ago. I liked it, but there were others there who did not. All of my friends liked it too. I was surprised that I never heard about it again. I should watch it again to see if I still feel the same way. Wasn't it partially autobiographical?

Tue, July 25, 2006 - 12:11 PMI thought Leslie Jordan was amazing in this. I loved this film when I saw it at a film festival a few years ago. I suppose some people don't like films about drug addicts or get why he would fall for such a loser, even tho he was hot.
